Gabon exported its first barrel of oil in 1957, by the Petroleum Society of French Equatorial Africa (SPAEF), which will become after independence the Petroleum Company of Equatorial Africa (SPAFE); which will be transformed into ELF and then Total (source: Oil in Gabon, by Jacqueline Bouquerel.

Oil has been coming out of Gabon’s soil for 60 years.
