THE ARTICLE BY THE CANARD ENCHAINÉ. L’ARTICLE DU CANARD ENCHAINÉ

English version

Ali Bongo is at home in Paris. On 15 June, the President of Gabon was at Le Bourget. At the opening of the air show, he attended, alongside Holland, a demonstration of the Rafale. The French head of state leans his counterpart and casually said, smiling: "As expected, they will give you a deal!” That evening, as evidenced by the private program of the visit of Bongo, a document available to Le Canard, the Gabonese dined at the Hotel de Brienne with the Minister of Defense, Jean-Yves Le Drian.

The next day, after spending a relaxing night in a palace of Kleber Avenue, an underground station away from the vast apartments that the Bongo family owns on Avenue Foch, the Gabonese head of state continued his tour. He had lunch with the journalistic leadership of the Lagardère Media Group: the bosses of Paris Match editorial board, the Journal Du Dimanche and Europe 1. At snack time, he had tea with Marie Christine Sarragosse, president of France Médias Monde, which oversees the editorial board of France 24 and RFI. At dinner, Bongo was to receive Olivier Pelat, son of the industrialist Roger-Patrice, friend of Mitterrand, and "special guardian" of Liliane Bettencourt. Is the Gabonese President, who is under a French judicial inquiry regarding the "ill-gotten gains" looking for good tips from that asset manager? On June 17, it is the staff of Le Point which was invited to breakfast with Libreville’strongman. An interesting date: the Hebdo attempts to pick advertisement in Africa. Finally, before returning home in the afternoon, Ali Bongo, shall participate in an ultimate "working session" with four leaders of a- yet to be- famous agency of communication and their lawyer.

Money to be made

It is this small company, called Majorelle PR & Events, which concocted all the Parisian program of the Gabonese president. It is that company - for a secret amount – that is now in charge of his public relations. At its head is Anne Hommel, who has long advised Jean-Christophe Cambadélis and DSK. Since he has been in Matignon, Manuel Valls occasionally hires its services. On 1st of July, she will be joined by Sacha Mandel: they met while working at Havas Worldwide (formerly Euro RSCG), the firm chaired by Stéphane Fouks, a buddy of Valls. And as the world is decidedly small, the same Mandel is still to this day, the press and communication advisor to... Jean-Yves Le Drian. During the Ali Bongo’s Parisian’s week, he wore both the helmet of the Ministry of Defense and the Majorelle’s cap.
