WHAT TO MAKE OF ALI BONGO SLEEPING AT THE UNITED NATIONS? QUE PENSER DE LA SOMNOLENCE D’ALI BONGO AUX NATIONS UNIS ?

English version

There is the caricature of the African who is despised the world over because he is supposed to be careless, lazy in the extreme; eternally needy; a congenital idiot, does not want to go to school because preferring to party, libidinous and sickly irresponsible etc.

There is the caricature of the African Head of State who is supposed to be corrupt, incompetent; murderous, insensitive to the needs of the people, who does not know what to do at world summits except to sleep...

Then there is unfortunately the case of Ali Bongo, where we see the intersection of the caricature of the African and the one the even more cartoonish Negro Head of State. No picture illustrates better this fact than the photo and video above, showing an Ali Bongo ready to use a member of the French delegation as a pillow for his sleeping comfort during Obama’s speech. We can laugh, but this symbol of an African Head of State who collapses in his chair, unable to resist the call of Morpheus, is very damaging to the image of Africa in general, and of that of Gabon especially because it reinforces all existing prejudices about the buffoonery of negroes and the more obvious one of their operettas leaders. A Head of State who falls asleep in the Chamber of the UN during the address of the President of the world superpower, what a symbol!

To those who say that the time difference can give everyone a hard time saying awake, we will answer in the affirmative, but except for the fact that for a Head of State, traveling to different time zones must be thoroughly prepared, so that the Heads of State still appear fresh in the exercise of their functions. For example, the heads of Western States are the most publicized of the world, and yet not a single picture exists showing Obama, Hollande or Sarkozy, Merkel, Putin, etc.., dozing off in public at a summit conference. Obama had recently traveled briskly in Africa and he was always fresh during official ceremonies. Why are these heads of Western States always fresh? Because their protocol ensures before the trip, that the biological clock of the President would already be acclimated to the destination. When such a president arrives at their destination, people do not see their tonsils because they would spend their time yawning; their eyes are not flushed by sleep like those of Ali Bongo. A Head of State of a Western country who would fall asleep during a major summit, would pay dearly at the polls. But this is a consideration that does not concern Ali Bongo since he does not care about the Gabonese electorate!

Dear readers, that Ali Bongo falls asleep during Obama's speech is an indicator of the chronic unpreparedness of these morons who run Gabon. While it is normal for a regular traveler leaving from Libreville, to arrive in New York really tired, Ali Bongo traveling in the princely comforts of a presidential jet should arrive fresh in the country of Uncle Sam. In fact, an ordinary traveler is subjected to an obstacle course in airports, having to arrive three hours before flying to register. Take care of the custom formalities, carry their baggage, wait for boarding, cross Africa to Europe for hours sitting in a cramped and uncomfortable seat. Stopover in Europe and again go through the same process. Then sit in another seat just as cramped as the first, with close proximity to crying babies etc. Upon arrival in New York, it is understandable that this traveler may need 2 days of recovery to be functional. But Ali Bongo leaves his home in a ultra comfortable limousine, directly enters a presidential plane equipped bedrooms with comfortable beds. Upon arrival, the protocol driven limousine takes him to a 5 star hotel where he can bask until the opening of the summit. There should not be a problem of sleep or recovery for him. The only explanation is the disorganization of Ali Bongo and the Protocol who did not taken care of ensuring that he would be physically ready for the summit.

Given the appalling and ridiculous spectacle given by Ali Bongo in the chamber of the UN, some of our readers with whom we discussed this video were unanimous in their response: "is this a head of state?" they shouted.

This is indeed certainly the dismissive reaction expressed by many Gabonese citizens after viewing the video of Ali Bongo looking for a pillow at the UN. The drowsy man appears, as usual, childish and disconnected from the importance and stature that the office of President should have. When we see Ali Bongo dozing at the UN, we realize why the country is run with a rare ineptitude. But do not they say that power spoils the "small" and improves the "big"? That is to say a shabby individual in power will see their incompetence magnified and this is what is happening to Ali Bongo. Even the sycophants and hangers-on revolving around Ali Bongo cannot find extenuating circumstances for him. They have exhausted all the excuses. The reality is there, gaping: a shabby individual remains a shabby individual!

The Gabonese people are tired of living in an inefficient state. To be led by an incompetent person who will never bring concrete improvements to their basic needs. Tired of a caricature of a head of state!
