The dictionary tells us that to infantilize someone is to have toward that person a condescending attitude, debasing them to the level of reflection of a child unable to cope independently, especially incapable of making decisions and judgments that have sense.

By reading and analyzing the recent letter written by Richard Attias to President Barack Obama, we could not miss to pick up on the undertone of the profound infantilization in which the content of that letter confined Ali Bongo, the assumed president of the Republic of Gabon. This sentiment certainly deserves an explanation, and we give it to you here.

You see, dear readers, when Richard Attias wrote to Barack Obama to tell him about the so-called "exploits" of the Gabonese Presidency in the field of employment and vocational training, even asking the U.S. President to financially support an initiative of the Gabonese presidency, one wonders in what official capacity is Richard Attias speaking about what remains, until proven otherwise, the institutional domain of the Gabonese state. Being the organizer of the New York Forum Africa in Libreville has never meant that Gabon had transferred an ounce of its sovereignty to Richard Attias for him to go present their hopes to Barack Obama! In fact we all understand that these are not the hopes of the Gabonese people but those of Ali Bongo; the trouble here is that given his position of President of the Republic, a wish by Ali Bongo which implicates Gabon and is transmitted by Richard Attias in a haughty manner and with a burst of ownership (of Gabon), inevitably leaves an aftertaste of delegation of sovereignty to an individual who knows little or nothing about Gabon.

This way of wanting to make Gabon without the Gabonese people, or at most with Gabonese people in a posture of spectators, is unacceptable. In a country where there is a Ministry of Labour, it should not be a Richard Attias who formally talks about jobs in Gabon. In a country where there is a Ministry of Vocational Training, it is not a Richard Attias who should speak officially of initiatives related to the expenditure of the Gabonese state for the training of young people and reduction of unemployment. These are reserved areas and these are roles that are never formally devolved to lobbyists. Further, it would be necessary for the one allowing Richard Attias to act that way, to have a minimum of consideration for the concept of national sovereignty.

Though born in Morocco, never would Attias send such a letter to the head of the U.S. state in the name of his alleged country, Morocco; the Moroccans would never accept that! But in Gabon, Ali Bongo certainly for reasons of inferiority complex and conscious of his inadequacies, gives to Richard Attias missions of national order. It is a thinker who said that the progress of a nation lays in the deep sense it has of its identity, origin and destiny. Reading the letter of Richard Attias to Barack Obama, we have a profound sense of a return to the framework of the colonial tutor to whom we must turn so he could speak for us as we are unable to do so for ourselves. In his letter, what does Richard Attias say that is so profound, and not full of nonsense? How to explain that Ali Bongo pays billions of CFA francs to have such tasteless letters written on his behalf? Gabonese citizens, even of the ruling party, would have been able to produce a more consequential letter than this rag written by Richard Attias! Billions for that?

It is distressing, dear readers, to see that in 2013, in the 21st century, an African head of state, Ali Bongo in this case, is more concerned with satisfying the needs of the outside than those endogenous to his population; he remains more dazzled by the opportunity to take a picture with Larry Summers than build a real university in Libreville. Richard Attias knows who he is dealing with in Ali Bongo and serves him what Ali Bongo appears interested in; the glitz and bling. The tragedy is that behind all this buffoonery, there is a suffering people, and as long as the framework of the Bongos buffooneries and infantilisms is not destroyed and rebuilt according to the values and domestic needs of Gabonese citizens, people like Richard Attias will always act in Gabon as if in conquered territory and for that, they will have all the encouragements of the regime. Just as Olam is on conquered territory in Gabon, Richard Attias does what he wants, Maixen Accrombessi leads the country altogether, Maxime Gandzion transfers to our foreign currency into tax havens, Lee White is the master of our forests ... Dear readers, tell us if you can, what is left for the Gabonese people?

When Richard Attias comes to speak on behalf of Gabon, one has to wonder where the Gabonese people able to speak on behalf of Gabon are. Great nations have memories, which themselves have securely identified benchmarks. How can we accept that Richard Attias presents to the world on our behalf, a failure as evident as Ali Bongo, asserting that he embodies the best we could produce? The question we ask today is: who can respect the Gabonese people today, if they are led by an infantilized President?

En lisant et analysant la lettre récemment écrite par Richard Attias au Président Barack Obama, nous ne pouvions ne pas entrevoir la profonde infantilisation dans laquelle son contenu confinait Ali Bongo, le ci-devant Président de la supposée république du Gabon. Ce sentiment mérite certainement une explication et nous vous la donnons ici.

Voyez-vous, chers lecteurs, quand Richard Attias écrit à Barack Obama pour lui présenter les soi-disant « bienfaits » de la Présidence gabonaise en matière d’emplois et de formation professionnelle, demandant même au Président Américain de soutenir financièrement une initiative de la présidence Gabonaise, on se demande en quelle qualité officielle Richard Attias se permet de parler au nom de ce qui reste, jusqu'à preuve du contraire, du domaine institutionnel de l’état gabonais. Le fait d’être l’organisateur du New York Forum Africa à Libreville, n’a jamais voulu dire que les gabonais avaient transféré une once de leur souveraineté à un Richard Attias pour qu’il aille présenter leurs doléances à Barack Obama ! En fait nous comprenons tous que ce ne soient pas les doléances du peuple gabonais mais celles d’Ali Bongo; l’ennui ici étant que vu sa position de Président de la république, une doléance d’Ali Bongo qui engage le Gabon et transmise par un Richard Attias de manière hautaine et avec des élans de propriétaire (du Gabon), laisse forcément un arrière-gout d’une souveraineté déléguée à un individu qui ne connait rien ou presque du Gabon.

Cette manière de vouloir faire le Gabon sans les gabonais, ou tout au plus avec les gabonais en posture de spectateurs est inacceptable. Dans un pays où il y a un Ministère du Travail, ce n’est pas un Richard Attias qui devrait de manière officielle, parler d’emplois au Gabon. Dans un pays où il y a un Ministère de la Formation Professionnelle, ce n’est pas un Richard Attias qui devrait parler officiellement des initiatives liées à la dépense de l’état gabonais pour la formation des jeunes et la réduction du chômage. Il y a des domaines réservés et il y a des rôles qui ne sont jamais dévolus de manière officielle à des lobbyistes. Encore faudrait-il que celui qui autorise Richard Attias à agir de la sorte, ait un minimum de considération pour la notion de souveraineté nationale.

Bien que né au Maroc, jamais Richard Attias ne se permettrait d’envoyer une pareille lettre au chef de l’état américain au nom de son prétendu pays, le Maroc; les marocains de l’accepteraient jamais! Mais au Gabon, Ali Bongo certainement pour des raisons de complexe d’infériorité et conscient de son inaptitude, confie à Richard Attias des missions d’ordre national. C’est un penseur qui avait dit que le progrès d’un peuple résidait dans le sentiment profond qu’il avait de son identité, de son origine et de son destin. En lisant la lettre de Richard Attias à Barack Obama, nous n’avons eu le profond sentiment que d’un retour vers le cadre du tuteur colonial vers qui on se tourne pour qu’il parle en notre nom car nous sommes incapables de le faire. Dans sa lettre, que dit Richard Attias de si profond, si ce n’est des niaiseries? Comment expliquer qu’Ali Bongo paie des milliards de francs CFA pour se voir écrire des lettres aussi insipides ? Des gabonais, même du parti au pouvoir, auraient été capables de produire un courrier plus conséquent que ce torchon écrit par Richard Attias ! Des milliards pour ça?

Il est affligeant, chers lecteurs, de constater qu’en 2013, au 21ième siècle, un chef d’Etat Africain, Ali Bongo en l’occurrence, reste plus préoccupé à satisfaire les besoins de l’extérieur que ceux endogène à sa population; qu’il reste plus ébloui par la possibilité de faire une photo avec Larry Summers que de faire construire une université véritable à Libreville. Richard Attias sait à qui il a affaire en Ali Bongo et lui sert ce dont Ali Bongo s’avère intéressé, les paillettes et le bling. La tragédie c’est que derrière toute cette bouffonnerie, il y a un peuple qui souffre; et tant que le cadre des bouffonneries et des infantilismes des Bongo n’est pas détruit et reconstruit à l’aune des valeurs et des besoins intérieurs aux gabonais, des gens comme Richard Attias seront toujours au Gabon en terrain conquis et pour cela ils auront tous les encouragements du régime en place. Tout autant qu’Olam est en terrain conquis au Gabon, Richard Attias fait ce qu’il veut, Maixen Accrombessi dirige carrément le pays, Maxime Gandzion transfert nos devises vers les paradis fiscaux, Lee White est le maitre de nos forêts… Chers lecteurs, dites-nous si vous le pouvez, que reste-t-il aux Gabonais?

Quand un Richard Attias vient parler au nom des Gabonais, on est en lieu de se demander où sont les gabonais capables de parler au nom du Gabon? Les grands peuples ont de la mémoire qui elle-même vient de repères solidement identifiés. Comment pouvons-nous accepter qu’un Richard Attias présente au monde en notre nom, un échec aussi cuisant qu’Ali Bongo en prétendant affirmer qu’il incarnerait ce que nous produisions de mieux? La question que nous vous posons aujourd’hui est la suivante: qui peut respecter les gabonais aujourd’hui, s’ils sont dirigés par un Président infantilisé?
